Who will take care of your kids?
Posted by Rie Umano
What happens to your lovely kids when you die? This is the most important question that particularly young couple should prepare. However, most couples never think about this issue because it is very difficult to decide choosing right guardian. You would not want end up your lovely, adorable and sweet children with anyone you dislike. In fact, a judge by the Circuit court of the County could appoint anyone who seems to fit for the job can take care of your kids. Also, it is possible that your families fight over the right of taking care of children at court and spend a lot of money after your death. On the other hand, if there are no applicants, your kids would most likely be in huge trouble.
There are some factors to consider when you choose a guardian for your children: age and health of the potential guardian, resources, character and values, personalities, geography, financial, and other kids of the potential guardian. There are many cases that your mother or father is willing to take care of your children, but it is possible that they might lack the health or energy for the task.
The thing that you have to be careful is that you should choose only one guardian, but have a backup. The reason is that joint guardianship can cause many problems if the couple separate. For example, you assign your sister and her husband as potential guardians, but if they break up, there is a guardianship issue whether which one should take care of your kids. Also, you should reconsider this issue over and over as your children grow up. The circumstances and situations can change and you always need to reconsider those situations and who should be the potential guardian of your kids. You never know when you die, so it is always better to prepare and protect for your children.
